Papaya Fig Smoothie

Our new restaurant is so beautiful, and has such a warm, welcome and pretty spirit to it. You feel good there. The walls are lined with James Birthrong’s paintings, which go so well with the hanging wooden star lanterns, the different-colored tables and the walls. The back has lay-down easy wooden lazy-chairs, a gorgeous mural, and many tables. They did so much work, and everything is so great. Now the locals have somewhere nice to be on Mondays!

Almond Chocolate Smoothie

I’m teaching Gentle Stretch/Chi Gong at Matt Monarch’s Raw Food Retreat Again. And amazingly struck by the beauty, by the ability to get out of the Village and be in idyllic surroundings, quiet and vibrant. I, literally, am eating gourmet raw food, seven times in ten days. In this week I’ve had raw crackers with onion cashew cheese, raw tiramisu, chocolate spirulina truffles, gymnostemma/shilajit-something tea, other chamomile- calming tea, raw banana wraps with chocolate cashew spread, chia pudding, strawberry probiotic pudding, raw granola with almond milk, assorted seasonal fruits, raw date food bars and the ever-present spread of jars of maca-stevia-honey-cinnamon- cacao – almond butter- goji berries, etc.. I feel So rich and am eating So much. Thank goodness I’m not there for lunch and dinner!

Mart’s Morning Smoothie

The owners of the Community Center left the Hotel Ramses where I teach, right? Well, I was waiting for the owner to ask him if I could stay and continue to teach anyway. I left he and his wife a long letter, in spanish, and today, after yoga, they agreed that I could stay! And it’s close and beautiful and secluded, just 1 1/2 blocks from the center of town.
My students and I, the four of us that were there today, were SO happy. Oh my gosh. Great day.

B’s Mango Chocolate Shake

Story from L, a friend of mine, on Paul Newman. Lollie came from Connecticut, and one time Paul Newman and Joanne came into their store! –  “It was 2007, so he was pretty old, but still gorgeous. We laughed about how he came to my college so many years ago to stump for a candidate for president. I showed him a photo of himself! Joanne was so great. She ordered sandwiches and said she had always loved the store. I remained calm…UNTIL THEY LEFT! Then I danced all around the store with my employees and we called everyone we knew!!! hahahaha. So fun.”

Recipe of the Day – Mango Chocolate Shake

Ingredients:

3/4 c. raw milk, oat, seed or nut milk

3-4 small frozen bananas

1 avocado

1 mango

Directions: Peel and cut the fruit. Blend together with the rest of the ingredients.

Word of the Day – famoso – famous

Tip of the Day – It’s interesting that many people have told me they didn’t drink milk until they came to Vilcabamba. Perhaps the lack of hormones in the fresh milk makes it more digestible?

Blueberry Fig Smoothie

On a sunny, 7 a.m. morning, with a beautiful sun-lit hill above the land, I did my sun-gathering and early yoga, ending by digging a soft indentation in the sand and raising my feet to the sky in a Vilcabamba headstand. Cherry Goji Kiwi Smoothie for Sleep

Says my sister’s Doctor –“Kiwi is one of the fruits I’ve prescribed to my patients with insomnia (two an hour before bedtime appears to significantly improve sleep onset, duration, and efficiency) and also to help with constipation-type irritable bowel syndrome (two kiwifruit a day seem to significantly improve bowel function).”

Recipe of the Day – Sleep Smoothie
Ingredients:

1 frozen banana
2 T. goji berries
1 kiwi
1/2 c. pitted cherries
1 c.  water, tea or coconut milk

Directions: Blend in a blender until smooth.

Word of the Day – duermo – I sleep

Tip of the Day – Kiwi certainly seems like a better option than the leading IBS drug, which was pulled from the market for apparently killing too many people. Kiwifruit also appear to benefit immune function.”

Peanut Butter Maca Smoothie

At the Juice Factory here in Vilcabamba, they have a sign holding the three types of maca and their uses. Isn’t that a nice thing to do? Yellow maca is for hormone balance and mood-enhancing. I’ve been taking that one, five days a week for many years, and recommend it to my daughters and their friends for emotional support                                                                                                                                  Red maca is for prostrate problems and bone support. Black maca is for stress, fatigue and adrenal stress. I could probably use all three!

Recipe of the Day –  Peanut Butter Maca Smoothie

Ingredients:
2 large frozen bananas
1 c. oat coconut or nut milk
2 T. peanut or other nut butter
1 T. maca powder
1  pinch vanilla powder or 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend on high until smooth.

Word of the Day – signo sign

Tip of the Day – If you want to cut the richness you can substitute water for some of the nut milk.

1 Medium carrot

1  apple, cored

1/ 4″ piece Fresh ginger, peeled and grated
