Bee’s Nest Remedy

You know when I got stung the other day, I didn’t realize that loud, anxiety-producing sound was bees nesting in the cracks of the cement foundation where I’m camping. I googled it to find that ordinary dish soap might get rid of them. While W, my friend and gardener was lighting a fire to smoke them out, I started pouring my home-made dish soap on them and into the cracks. There were hundreds, dying rapidly, wow! I used two whole home-made bottles over the course of three days, but it appears every last bee is gone, yay!

Recipe of the day – Bee’s Nest Remedy Soap

3 Tab. liquid Castile Soap
1 tsp. glycerin
5-8 drops Essential Oil (either lemon, lavender, rosemary or geranium)
Directions: Use a brown bottle and pour all ingredients through a funnel. Shake well before using.

Word of the Day – ansiedad – anxiety

Tip of the Day – I don’t like killing animals, but it seemed worth it to avoid another bee sting in the mouth, or other areas, just three feet away from where I sleep!

DIY Hand Soap

I asked my my young airbnb guests some typical polite questions: “Did you sleep well? Did the dog barking wake you up? How was your night on the town?”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            “Oh, I got in at 3:30, “the young woman said. “And me, 9,” said the young man. His eyes were clear, his smile bright, so I didn’t even consider that he meant 9 a.m. “9:00 this morning. First I went to a party until 1, then another until 3:30, at which point I couldn’t find a taxi. And I didn’t want to pay for another hostel. So I thought I would walk to your house. I walked a long, long time (We’re an hour’s walk to town.) And then a bus came by, so I got on it! “At which point his eyes lit up. “Only it didn’t go to Cucanama Bajo. It went to Loja.” Eyes fell. “So I rode the bus to Loja, then rode it back, and got a few hours sleep for $3, then came to your house and slept until now!”(noon.)

Wow. He said the parties in Germany are much longer. In his town, you meet your friends at 8 or 9 p.m. Then go home and have a couple beers. Then go out starting at 1 a.m. and on into the night and the next day. Wow.

Tip of the Day –

DIY Anti-bacterial Soap

After being inside all morning, meditating, reading, yoga etc…I stepped outside. Oh, my God, there’s people out here! People, and green grass wet with the moisture of the sprinkler, sand under my feet in the driveway, workers talking and enjoying their lunch, Jose with his perpetual smile, and a work truck driving away while the driver shouted happy greetings. What! I was in my mind so much, so self-centered, I forgot there was a beautiful life out there! Isn’t the first time!

4. 5-8 drops of any these Anti-bacterial Essential Oils or combination of:
Tea Tree, Lemon, Lavender, Geranium, or Rosemary EO’s-There are others but these are commonly used.

Directions:
Add the soap to a measuring cup or into the container to be used.  Add in EO’s, then add the Glycerin if using.  Gently mix or stir together to combine.  Add in water and gently stir/mix to combine all ingredients.  You don’t want to stir, mix or shake too vigorously as it will create suds.  Pour into a hand soap container to use.
