Raw Snacks Video

I’m teaching Tai Chi up at Matt Monarch’s Raw Food Retreat right now. Reminding me, as I talk with the guests, that people need Ideas, things you can do on the run, to take to work, to travel with or at home, to keep you on a raw food diet. Here’s a video suggesting a good handful.

Rhubarb Smoothie Video

The neat thing about hanging upside down for your back, is you can see the underside of a bird’s belly! What!

Recipe of the Day – Raw Rhubarb Smoothie

Ingredients:

2 stalks rhubarb

1 c. cherries, strawberries, an orange or all!

1 c. water, juice or coconut milk

1/4 c. raw honey or sweetener

sprinkle of rosemary

options – 2 stalks celery, a dash of cherry liqueur, 1 Tab. chia seeds To make into a pudding, or smoothie, add 1 Tab. soaked chia seeds, 1 banana

Wash and strip 2 stalks rhubarb. Cut off the leaves and discard, if it hasn’t been done for you. Chop into little pieces. Put in the blender with: cherries, strawberries, or an orange ,. liquid – water or juice, coconut milk,raw honey or sweetener of choice and rosemary

Word of the Day – colgar – to hang

Tip of the Day – To make into a rhubarb crumble, spread over a raw oat/almond crust.

 

 

Cranapple Juice Video


On this video on youtube, you can hear about cranberries, how they’re low in fat, high in vitamins E, K, C and manganese, high in anti-oxidants, good for UTIs and bladder infections!

 

Recipe of the Day – Cranapple Juice

Ingredients:

1 c. cranberries

1 apple

1 pear

Directions: Juice.

Word of the Day – usa – you use/you wear

Tip of the Day – Add a little water if you want to. Add sweetening if you’ve got a non-sweet apple!

Raw Island Dressing

Recipe of the Day – Raw Island Dressing,

Ingredients:

Mayo

1/2 c. cashews, soaked at least 45 minutes in a little water or rejuvelac

1 T.apple cider vinegar

1 tsp. honey, raw agave or other sweetener,

1/2 c. juice from an orange or lemon

Directions: Blend to a paste. Options- add olive oil, basil, lemon, onion

Ketchup: 1

fresh tomato

1 handful dried tomatoes (either sun-dried, or dry them in your dehydrator for 12 hours at 104 degrees)

1 clove garlic

1 T. Bragg’s Amino Acids

1/4 inch piece tamarind (optional – 1 T raisins)

Directions: Blend to a paste. Options- add olive oil, basil, lemon, onion

Mustard:

3/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1 1/2 T Mustard – (to make your own mustard, start out with a T ground mustard seeds, add vinegar or water until paste like, then play around with it, add ginger and black pepper for a little spice, add honey for a little sweet )

1 T Fresh Rosemary

1 garlic clove

fresh black pepper ; sea salt

Directions: Blend to a paste. Options- add olive oil, basil, lemon, onion

Using the Omega Juicer for Ice Cream and Nut Butter

When do I pick my cacao pods, do you ask? When you tap them and they sound hollow! You gotta be careful not to cut off the buds from the trunk, as they will grow new cacao pods, cool!

Mung Bean Recipes

Recipe of the Day – Sprouted Mung Bean Recipes

Ingredients;

1 c. mung beans

water

Directions: Soak 1 cup mung bean sprouts for 12 hours. Rinse every 8 hours for 1-5 days, depending on how long you want the sprouts. Put a weight on top between rinses. On the 3rd (or last) day, soak the sprouts again for 10-20 minutes, then let them dry completely. Skip the last rinse to generate heat.

Herbal Party Sprouts: Mix the sprouts with 1 Tablespoon each of : oregano, basil, thyme, garlic, rosemary, marjoram, onion plus 1/2 tsp. olive oil or sesame oil.

Mung Bean Salad: Chop up your choice of vegetables: cucumbers, carrots, peppers, cabbage, snow peas, mushrooms, pineapple. Toss with sprouts .

Ginger Dressing: 3 T. tahini or nut butter, 2 T. Bragg’s Amino Acids or Nama Shoyu, juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar, 2 garlic cloves, 1/4 tsp. green curry paste, 1 tsp. honey, 1/4 c. water. Blend and pour over salad. Chill!

Chia Jam

I went to the States and had a beautiful, beautiful heart-warming visit with my kids. One in Montana, and two in Oregon. No luckier woman is there, than I.

Recipe of the Day – Chia Jam

Ingredients:

7 strawberries

a handful of blueberries

a tsp. of raw honey

1 Tablespoon chia seeds soaked in water for 10 minutes

Directions: Blend all.

Word of the Day – hermosa – beautiful

Tip of the Day –Switch your fruits around to make different jams! We have some gorgeous apricots right now, in this town, that would make some awesome chia jam!

Mock Tuna

These huge white herons, with black on their wings, have been nesting on the hills, rocks and crags  of Las Vegas, Cucanama Bajo, Ecuador, or neighborhood! None of the locals I’ve spoke with have ever seen them before! Tall, whote, with a little black or dark grey on theor wings, 3-4 feet tall and gorgeous!

Recipe of the Day – Mock Tuna

Ingredients:

3 c. alfalfa sprouts – optional

1/3 c. soaked, sprouted sunflower seeds

(1/4 c. sprouted lentils)- optional

(1/4 c. mung bean sprouts) – optional

2 stalks celery

3 heaping T. raw almond butter

1 T. kelp powder (or 1 tsp. seaweed)

1/4 c. onion

1/4 c. tomatoes

1/4 c. chopped pickles, (optional)

1/4 c. Bragg’s amino acids

1/2 avocado

Directions: Grind celery and sunflower seeds in the food processor until mixture comes together. Mix by hand with the raw almond butter, kelp powder or seaweed, onion, tomatoes and soy sauce or Bragg’s amino acids. Scoop out a half an avocado and fill with this wonderful raw, mock tuna! It’s really delicious.
