My guests are looking ar and now, buying land from Jose, my maestro. Very interesting for me to go with them to the lawyers, with Jose, and hear the difference between buying land now, as opposed to several years ago. Jose has to get all 5 of his brothers and 3 sisters to sign off on it. One can’t build with concrete 16 meters from the bank of the river. But you can build with adobe, wood or bamboo. So that’s interesting. My friends had trouble with a wire transfer at the bank – Capce Loja doesn’t do those anymore. So they have to write a check from the States to start a new account. Both things on both sides will take about 3 weeks, so that’s not bad. And then they transfer money and deed, and the land is their’s!
- 1 c. cacao butter, broken into chunks
- 6 T. cacao powder
- 3-4 T. coconut syrup or honey
- ½ tsp. salt
- Pinch vanilla powder, or 1/2 tsp. vanilla essence
- 1 T. almonds
- 1/4 c. dried berries
- 1/4 c. shredded coconut
Melt the cacao butter or coconut oil in your dehydrator, or a double boiler, or over a bowl of hot water. Mix in the other ingredients by hand. You may add a little water, if necessary.
Other options: add vanilla, orange, (yum!) extract or juice, peppermint, cacao nibs
Word of the Day – corteza – bark (of a tree)
ladra – to bark
Tip of the Day – Make sure, when you buy land here, you get a 3rd party lawyer who has a good reputation, to hold the money and transfer the deed. There are many stories of people giving money away to someone who doesn’t even own the land!
